Many thanks for your helpful and prompt service. I am sure Valerie will be delighted once again with the brooch - I certainly think it's quite stunning."
We are one of the leading firms of jewellery valuers in the East Midlands.
We have two valuers, both of whom are National Association of Goldsmiths (NAG) Registered Valuers. This means that they have met the stringent standards set by the industry leaders and are recognised as the elite of the profession. One of our valuers is also a qualified Gemmologist (FGA).
We use the most advanced valuation software, including high quality digital imaging to make identification easy. With valuations accepted by insurance companies, there are no arguments in the event of a claim.
Unfortunately we are not able to do valuations from photographs, but do have to examine the pieces directly, in order to assess condition, study marks, establish weights and measurements, evaluate any stones, etc. For clients who are not local, we can provide the service by post, which involves using Royal Mail Special Delivery (insured) to send the pieces to us and for their return. In some cases, where there is a large volume of high value pieces, we can come to you, with our ‘mobile valuation kit’.
We also provide "post-loss" assessments. This means we can define the replacement value of jewellery that has already been stolen, based on detailed discussions to form a picture of what the pieces were like.
Valuations are charged on a sliding scale based on the total value, as per The Guild of Valuers & Jewellers recommended price guide. The minimum charge is £44.00.
This piece had previously been valued at £80.00 as an "Art Nouveau necklace".
We could see it was more important so we did some research. It turned out to be by Georgie Gaskin (wife of Arthur Gaskin, a leading Arts & Crafts designer) which gives it a replacement value of £2,500.
If this had been lost before our valuation, the owner would not have received adequate compensation (although they wouldn't have known it!)
